The Indian Narcotics Control Bureau recently announced the successful takedown of a darknet drug vendor group known as "Team Kalki". The group had been selling a range of drugs across India for about a year. Two individuals have been arrested for organizing the operation, with drugs seized during the raid.
The Investigation
Authorities revealed that their investigation began after receiving a tip-off. They discovered that the vendor had been active since January 2025, completing approximately 1,000 sales with an average rating of 4 stars. The vendor operated within India. Authorities also reported that the vendor group was active on the Dread forum, using the platform to market and promote their products.
Further investigation uncovered that the vendor was also arranging dead-drops across the country, where drugs were placed at predetermined locations. Paying customers were provided with images and coordinates to retrieve the items, a method commonly used in Russia and other Eastern European darknet markets. The group reportedly sourced their drugs from larger vendors based in the Netherlands, Germany, and Poland.
Raid & Arrest
The investigation revealed that the two individuals behind the operation were Anurag Thakur and Vikas Rathi, who reportedly met while serving sentences for trafficking charges in Tihar Jail. The Indian Narcotics Control Bureau raided their locations and arrested both suspects. During the raids, authorities seized a significant quantity of drugs, including over 2,000 LSD tabs, 160 MDMA pills, 73 grams of Charas, and 3.6 grams of amphetamines. Additionally, 13 domestic and 2 Dutch packages, containing a total of 3.6kg of liquid MDMA, were intercepted and linked to the suspects.
NCB also traced wallets connected to the group, including USDT and Monero. The suspects attempted to conceal their financial activities by shuffling funds through multiple intermediary wallets before moving them into cold storage. Some of the funds were allegedly laundered through mules to bypass KYC checks.
As of now, few details have been disclosed about how the group was ultimately traced. It’s possible that authorities placed an order and tracked it through postal activity, though it’s also possible that more advanced techniques were employed, though this remains uncertain.
Users on Alert
Users of /d/DarknetMarketsIndia on Dread have been suspicious of Team Kalki for the past few days, as several users reportedly encountered issues with law enforcement. Additionally, the group’s lack of response led some to suspect an exit scam. It later became clear that the group had been arrested.
Conclusion
Little is known about the arrests beyond what has already been reported, with details about the investigation itself remaining scarce. Given that the packages were intercepted simultaneously with the arrests, it’s highly likely that the group was traced through their postal activities. The two suspects are now in custody and are facing charges related to drug peddling.
